Workforce Development Boards are a VR partner, and provide a great resource for making employment outcomes happen for our customers. But, there are some Workforce Development Boards that go “above and beyond” in their efforts to support vocational rehabilitation. Greetings to All!
I would like to express my deepest appreciation to the 2007 TRAN President Raul Tello, the board members, and the committee chairs and their members. You all have done an outstanding job! A special recognition to the 2007 Annual Conference Committee for all the hard work and dedication this past year and for putting together a successful training conference. Last year was a year to break records. We reached an all time high of 806 active members and we started partnering with local communities in doing various initiatives and successful projects. It was definitely an inspirational year for everyone!

We are in 2008 and the bar is set higher. We will strive towards reaching our vision to support our membership by promoting the public vocational rehabilitation’s ability to provide employment services to persons with disabilities and disability related solutions to the business community. It is important that each member is actively involved not only within our organization, but in our communities in state and national level. Partnership is a key to our success. Let’s reach out to the various businesses and rehabilitation providers and inform them about the benefits of collaborating and joining our organization. Each of you also has the opportunity to be involved in state and federal legislative issues that could affect the future of public VR. Or some of you may choose to partner with various universities to promote research and expand knowledge of best business practice. We have endless opportunities for you to be involved and be part of making 2008 the best year yet. I challenge you to be active and to make a difference!
During 2008, we will continue to take steps to find common goals with other organizations that support rehabilitation values and principles and develop collaborations that result in a unified effort which will ultimately give strength to us all. We need to put our creative minds and think of different ways to work together.
My hopes this year is to continue to grow in numbers for we are only strong when we have solid and active membership. I believe that we currently have the most committed and dedicated members who volunteer their time and effort to various activities that promote the organization. Let’s continue to add individuals who share the same energy and positive spirit.
This year, we will strive to carry out many of the goals outlined in the Long and Short Term Plan. With a strong Board and a solid Standing Committee working together, I believe that we will successfully achieve them all.
I welcome your feedback and suggestions. Please let me know your thoughts and insights regarding our goals and ways we could better strengthen our efforts.
Thank you again for giving me the opportunity to serve as your President. It has always been my privilege to be part of this worthwhile organization and a great honor to represent it wherever I go.
Cheryl Guido
