Twenty Reasons You Should Make TRAN Your Professional Organization

  4. Holds an annual training conference for VR professionals considered by many to be the largest and best of its kind in the nation Just this past year’s conference in Frisco;
  5. Over 400 in attendance with over 200 of those receiving CEUs – 14.25 general hours and 7 Ethics made available;
  6. Provided participants with national updates from the RSA commissioner and the president of NRA, Fred Schroder, who is also a former RSA Commissioner, as well as state updates from the DARS commissioner and assistant commissioners;
  7. Over 45 disability related exhibitors from around the state;
  8. Each year provides quarterly trainings for VR professionals with CEUs at no charge to participants or DARS;
  9. Last year alone more than 100 VR professionals attended these trainings with at least half of those receiving CEUs;
  10. Publishes 9-10 newsletters each year informing and educating its members and others about a number of important issues;

  15. Has its own long-time advocacy consultant working in DC – Catriona McDonald;
  16. As a newly formed organization in the late 90’s played a huge role in preventing privatization of the Public VR Program As a mature organization;
  17. In 2012, through visits with national legislators in Washington DC and in their state district offices, successfully educated them about the negative effects of budget cuts/sequestration, on people with disabilities;
  18. In 2013 and 2014 partnered with organizations such as NRA and other stakeholders to achieve reauthorization of the Rehab Act while persuading legislators to modify S. 803, which if passed in its initial form would have moved RSA from the Department of Education to the Department of Labor;
  19. Through contact with state legislators in Austin and in their local offices, and by providing public testimony during sunset hearings, ensured VR professionals and people with disabilities have had a voice throughout the Sunset process;
  20. In the past two years alone, the TRAN Advocacy team has made contact with more than 100 national and state legislators, provided public testimony at state budget and sunset committee hearings, and spoke out at national conferences in support of VR professionals, continued funding and overall integrity of the public program All this at an annual cost to each member of only $55.00 per year, which is only $5.00 more than in 1995.
