Summary:

Communication experts say the average worker sends 300 to 1,000 messages (written, verbal and non-verbal) a day and receives a comparable number. With numbers like these, it’s easy to discern why effective communication is deemed the most important aspect of good teamwork and why it is important to communicate in a style that each communicator can understand.

This training is designed to help participants understand communication styles and strengths (especially their own) and become more adept at communicating with team members who have different styles.

Presenter: Billy T. Brookshire has over thirty-five years experience in rehabilitation and training. He has presented workshops throughout the United States and Canada on Personality Types, Self Esteem, Body Expression, Stress Management, Assertiveness, Team Building, Time Management, Giving Feedback, Dealing with Change, Dealing with Difficult People, Letting Go, and a variety of other topics. He has served as President of the Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired and Executive Chair of the Intergovernmental Training Council. He currently serves on the boards of All Blind Children of Texas and the Hall of Fame for Leaders and Legends of the Blindness Field. Billy recently retired from the Division for Blind Services where he served as Blindness Training and Development Specialist for 30 years. He is now a training consultant and public speaker in private practice. He is also the award winning author of the book: Loving Me: A Guide To Creating and Presenting Workshops on Self-Esteem.

Biographies:

Isabel Segovia is employed by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC, Civil Rights Office). She has worked for the state of Texas for over 24 years, in a variety of capacities, particularly in the area of civil rights. She is currently the HHSC Civil Rights Area Manager for the Edinburg and San Antonio regions. Ms. Segovia works regularly with HHSC policies and with employment laws including the Americans with Disabilities Act and other laws. She manages a group of investigators responsible for investigating and reviewing issues related to employment and service discrimination and/or potentially discrimination issues. Ms. Segovia attended UTPA in Edinburg. Ms. Segovia is a trained and active facilitator and mediator. Ms. Segovia is married and enjoys spending time with her family. Ms. Segovia is an ordained minister, is President of the Edinburg Aglow Lighthouse Ministry, and is active in her church and community.

Joe Bontke is the outreach manager and ombudsman for the Houston District office of U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Joe has been in the field of Human Resources & Civil Rights for the past 27 years and has experience in employment law and adult education. With a Bachelor's in Philosophy and a Masters in Education, he has been a Human Resources Director, a Training Coordinator for the American Disabilities Act (ADA) Technical Assistance Center for Federal Region VI, was appointed as Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Medicine and recently has been named Chair of the Governors’ Committee for People with Disabilities by Governor Rick Perry. Using his entertaining style, Joe has educated groups throughout the country and most recently, his work at the EEOC has enabled him to empower employers and employees with the understanding they need to work effectively at their jobs. Joe's philosophy of education is - that 90% is knowing where to find the information ... when you need it.

Expected Catches: Red & Black Drum, Croaker, Sand Trout, Whiting, Shark, Gafftop, Spanish Mackerel, Stingray, Angel Fish, etc.

All fishing gear and bait supplied. Seats are limited! Reserve now!
